We need to encourage people to restore properties and not destroy these to build into apartments.
Real fiscal advantages must be given to retain and restore houses of character and the like which are part of our heritage and essential to our village cores. Eg. renovations carried out could be a tax deductible against one's income. This should not be restricted to scheduled properties, those in UCAs or one's primary residence, (as the risk is that second properties would be destroyed), nor should it be restricted to the VAT element (so as to encourage people to demand VAT receipts).
Costs for applications for demolition within UCAs should be prohibitive, unless demolition of the property would be an improvement to the area.
